Swinging back into the groove

We have officially made it through three weeks of pre-season training. And what a huge success it has been so far! This would not be possible without our amazing volunteers, board members and community. Let's take a look at what they've been up to!

In our 7-8 group we have been working on basics; throwing, fielding and hitting. Our coaches and board members don't just set them up and let them go, they are working with each child to be sure they are executing each drill correctly to be able to improve and advance their skills. These groups of baseball and softball players are going to put up a tough fight this year on the field.

Softball and baseball 9 and older have been working hard on pitching, especially our newbies. It can be very intimidating to start a new season in a new division. It is important to help all these girls and boys get the fundamentals of pitching under their belt so that our coaches can utilize them all on the mound.

Baseball is practicing to use their hips to utilize them to drive the ball. You should see the faces of the boys who can feel themselves using their hips, it's a light bulb moment. This helps them to utilize their bottom half instead of just their arm. Alissa, Steve and MaryBeth are teaching our softball players the K for pitching. "Pitchers strides towards the plate, their body will turn sideways (belly button towards 3rd base dugout for a right-hand pitcher) and into a K or X position. Everything (ball, glove, and stride foot) should go toward the catcher on their "Power Line." " (littleleague.org)

The day is typically ended with some fun competition. With odd numbers this past week the OLL president stepped in and ran the relay for one of the teams. Unfortunately, he lost. ;) LOL. It's so fun for the kids and for the parents to watch. I'm thinking our president needs his own coach to condition him.

Thank you to all who have been able to make it so far. It is wonderful to have such an amazing turnout! If you haven't been able to make it, don't worry, we're here until March 26th! Come join us in some fun, laughter, and conditioning.
